What is time-lapse video?

Time-lapse video is the capture of images over an extended period of time — a day, a week, even months, and the automatic compliation of these images into a single movie. Instead of recording continuous video, like a home video camera, a time-lapse camera records a series of individual images, perhaps taking one picture every minute, and then compiles the images into a single, continuous movie.

The digital video is stored in universally recognizable AVI format on the Brinno's internal USB drive, which can be removed from its water resistant housing and plugged into your Mac or PC's USB port for upload and viewing.

The result is a lovely, entertaining movie that appears as if time has sped up.

The advantages of a time-lapse camera aboard a boat are simply extraordinary. For one, you can turn on the video camera and leave it on for daytrips and long cruises. The camera uses very low power to capture a new image periodically, perhaps set to capture a new image every 20 seconds, so it can operate on one set of batteries for very long stretches of time.

But the real value of time-lapse video is the enjoyment you have watching condensed fast-motion review of an entire day's journey. Here's a 25-second clip of a 15-minute cruise through Boston Harbor.

Our patent-pending fastening system clips beneath the Kayalite's base to any existing eyelet, deck loop, pad eye (as shown here) or any other fixed point of attachment.

Once clipped, the Kayapod's shock cord is pulled taut and cinched.
