KAYALU INTRODUCES KAYALITE™ XT DUAL-HEIGHT LIGHT POLE KIT FOR KAYAKS AND U.S.C.G. CLASSIFIED “VESSELS UNDER OARS”

(Boston, MA — February 1, 2019) Kayalu is now shipping the Kayalite XT, a user-configurable version of the company’s 360° bright white navigation light for kayaks, sit-on-tops (SOT), stand-up paddleboards (SUP), racing shells, canoes, dinghies, rowboats — any U.S. Coast Guard classified “vessel under oars."

The Kayalite XT ships as a kit capable of being assembled to a height of 21 inches (53 cm) or 28 inches (71 cm).

“The Kayalite XT increases visibility across the arc of the horizon while enabling a paddler or rower to provide 360° visibility above taller physical obstructions on deck such as a seat or crate,” said Kayalu President Steve Hollinger. “Incorporating all features of our original Kayalite, the Kayalite XT is similarly loss-proof, submersible and virtually indestructible.”

The Kayalite XT includes Kayalu’s patented “Secure-Attach” mounting system, allowing the light recover from a wave slam, paddle or oar smack, or impact with a foreign object such as a low-lying tree branch. The tension-based cable system allows for reboarding after an unintended roll or capsize without removing and risking loss of the light, or being obstructed from reentry by a rigid pole.

The Kayalite XT is easily secured to any existing eyelet or pad eye on the deck, minimizing the need for permanent alterations to the surface. A cable under tension at the Kayalite’s core ensures that the stern light stays upright, to prevent snapping or detaching. A resilient foam base adapts to contours and imperfections on the mounting surface while protecting the surface from scratches.

The 28-inch pole assembly of the Kayalite XT is recommended for mounting on a flat surface, such as the top of a hatch or SOT crate cover, canoe bench or flat deck area. The 21-inch assembly of the Kayalite XT is designed for mounting on a substantially flat or slightly contoured surface. The original, factory-assembled Kayalite will continue to be available for paddlers benefiting from its 18-inch height, optimal for sit-in kayaks, and for stability over a range of mounting surfaces.

The Kayalite XT includes a Tektite bright white 2-LED module with a 10,000-hour lamp life, operable for 100 hours on three AA batteries (included). The Kayalite XT is constructed of impact-resistant ABS and Lexan, with marine-grade stainless steel bolts and locknuts, and rubber o-rings at connection points to manage expansion and contraction from sunlight to icewater. The Kayalite XT is buoyant and submersible to 1,000 feet (300m) below sea level.

The Kayalite XT, classified as an “electric torch or lighted lantern,” meets both U.S.C.G. Rule 25 and Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) requirements for visibility of “vessels under oars.”

Kayalite Extension Kit and 2-LED Module Upgrade

For owners of the original 18-inch factory-assembled Kayalite, Kayalu is now shipping a Kayalite Extension Kit to match the 21-inch and 28-inch height of the Kayalite XT. The Kayalite Extension Kit includes extension tubes, rubber o-rings, marine-grade stainless steel hardware and custom wrench for assembly. For applications requiring additional height, multiple extension tubes may be assembled into a single unit.

Kayalu is now shipping a Tektite 2-LED module as a factory standard part on all Kayalite and Kayalite XT units. Replacement 1-LED, 2-LED and 4-LED modules are available separately. A Phillips screwdriver is required for assembly of the Kayalite XT, and for assembly of the Kayalite Extension Kit into an original Kayalite.
